At Harmony Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Dr. Maddy Goodman and Dr. Heather Sholander provide expert dental care for children of all ages, and from all walks of life. Our team is particularly dedicated to providing a comforting, safe, and even fun environment for kids who may have dental anxiety, or who have special needs including sensory difficulties, autism, and more.
So we’re proud to introduce the new Sensory Room at our office, which is open now. This special operating room is designed to provide an unparalleled level of comfort for kids in Bethesda, particularly those who are anxious about dentistry or may have other special needs. Read on to get all the details!
Our Sensory Room is a completely separate operating room where kids can relax and enjoy a comfortable, soothing treatment environment. It’s quiet and separated from the rest of the office, which helps reduce noise and stress.
Throughout the design of our Sensory Room, we’ve focused on encouraging relaxation and introducing a calming effect for kids. The theme of our Sensory Room is “Northern Lights.” The room is painted and decorated in soothing colors and tones, and includes adjustable lighting, which is particularly useful for kids who may have sensory processing disorders.
Not only that, but our Sensory Room is fully equipped with a TV, which can be used to show your child’s favorite Netflix or YouTube content, or just to play relaxing and soothing imagery to keep them feeling calm. In our Sensory Room, kids are also free to play with fidget toys and stress balls, which can provide a welcome distraction during teeth cleanings, oral exams, and more.
