At Harmony Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Drs. Maddy Goodman and Heather Sholander are board-certified specialists who strive to create a standard of care by integrating technology, research, and experience. As a practice, we take a comprehensive approach to oral health with the goal of promoting life-long overall wellbeing. We promote a caring, nurturing environment that fosters long-term relationships with both families and our team. We are located at 4818 Del Ray Avenue Bethesda, MD 20814.
Born and raised in Bethesda, Dr. Maddy Goodman is thrilled to be serving her hometown community. With an endodontist father, a future in dentistry was on her radar from an early age. Dr. Goodman attended the Holton-Arms School for middle and high school where she took her first Latin-language classes. This passion transferred to her time at Duke University where she majored in Classical Languages and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She then headed to the University of Pennsylvania for dental school and graduated first in her class before completing her orthodontic residency at Tufts University. Dr. Goodman is past president of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, the legislative body representing our region to the American Association of Orthodontists.
When she’s not at the office, she loves spending time with her husband (who’s also an orthodontist) and their two children, playing soccer, biking, cooking, and basically just being a mom.
Originally from St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, Dr. Heather Sholander grew up with parents who were both geneticists and doctors, fostering her early interest in science, research, and in helping others. She attended University of Georgia, focusing on microbiology and anthropology before completing her dental degree at the Medical College of Georgia. She practiced dentistry alongside her father for a few years until she married the love of her life, who convinced her to pursue her dreams of pediatric dentistry. She returned to school to complete a residency in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master’s in Oral Biology. It was then that the couple moved to the greater D.C. area, and she met Dr. Goodman. The rest, as they say, is history.
When she’s not in the office, she’s off exploring all sorts of places with her family, whether it’s a museum, a hike, a new hobby, or even a new country. She also loves reading and running to keep her mind and body healthy.

The moment you and your family enter our office, relaxation will wash over you. With earth tones and natural textures, like living walls and hardwood accents, your child will feel like they’re stepping into a beautiful garden of dental delights. We also plan to have STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) stations located throughout the office, and video game stations for older kids and teens soon. We also have Disney+ equipped TVs in every operatory. A dental home should be a place of comfort, especially for little ones, and every inch of our office has been designed with our patients in mind.
Being a board-certified orthodontist or pediatric dentist requires doctors participate in continuous education to renew their certification every year. Dr. Goodman and Dr. Sholander are both board-certified, and, as a result, are up-to-date on the latest advancements in dental techniques and technologies. Our office is equipped with an intraoral scanner and both hard and soft-tissue lasers to tackle a wide array of procedures. From traditional metal braces and Invisalign to pediatric crowns and frenectomies, our practice is equipped for every family member’s orthodontic and pediatric dentistry needs.
The Solea laser significantly enhances dental experiences for children who may otherwise be fearful of receiving treatment, due to anesthetic shots or the sound of a drill. The dental laser is quiet, reliably free of the needle, drill, blood, and pain that are associated with older technology.
For many procedures, anesthetic is not necessary. Because of how fast Solea works, most procedures can be completed in just minutes and there is usually no need for a second appointment. As a result of reliably anesthesia-free and blood-free procedures, your child will be able to leave the office—without that uncomfortable, numb sensation—almost immediately after Dr. Goodman completes the procedure.
